Give Lasting Hope
Alyssa's Story
Alyssa had a happy childhood. She enjoyed gymnastics, riding her bike, and attending youth group at her family's church. When Alyssa was 10, her father was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and passed away shortly after his diagnosis. Her mom began working two jobs to care for her and her siblings, but they struggled to make ends meet. They couldn't afford gymnastics anymore, and her mom wasn't around enough to take her back and forth to youth group. Life didn't feel happy anymore.
In high school, when her boyfriend became abusive, she didn't know who to tell. By the time she turned 16, Alyssa was struggling with depression and began drinking to numb her pain--until she found out she was pregnant. She was determined to turn her life around.
Alyssa found Value Unconditional just after her 24th birthday. She was working to provide for her kids, and she knew she couldn't be the mom she wanted to be without facing her past. Thanks to our monthly giving circle, Alyssa received the support she needed without ever receiving an invoice. The restorative services team met her where she was and welcomed her questions with loving eyes and open hearts. She never felt judged, rushed or shamed. For the first time in her life, she was free to admit the spiritual confusion she faced following her traumas. She knew there was nothing she had to hold back.
After years of carrying her pain alone, donors like you gave Alyssa the opportunity to finally lay it all down.

Jordan grew up in a small town where everyone knew each other. He was quiet, thoughtful, and loved drawing superheroes in his sketchbook. His parents divorced when he was seven, and not long after, his mom’s new boyfriend moved in. That’s when everything changed.
From the outside, things looked normal. But behind closed doors, Jordan was being abused. He didn’t have the words to explain what was happening—only that it felt wrong and terrifying. As he got older, the abuse stopped, but the silence didn’t. He carried it alone.
In high school, Jordan began skipping class and getting into fights. Teachers saw a “problem student.” No one saw the boy silently asking for help. By graduation, he was couch surfing and battling panic attacks he couldn’t explain.
It wasn’t until he was 37—after a friend gently encouraged him to reach out—that Jordan found Value Unconditional.
For the first time, he met people who didn’t flinch at his story. People who understood that trauma looks different in everyone—and that faith can feel complicated when you’ve lived through what he had. He didn’t have to pretend to be okay. He didn’t have to hide behind silence or shame.
Thanks to donors like you, Jordan received trauma-informed, faith-based care that helped him begin to trust again—not just others, but himself, and God too.
He's now active in a men's group at his church and uses art and music to help other young men name their pain and reclaim their voice. Because of your generosity, Jordan's story didn’t end in silence. He's turning his story into beautiful songs—with honesty, healing, and hope.
